According to the Oxford dictonary to 'Occupy' is to:

'fill or take up (a space or time)', 'hold (a position or job)', 'fill or preoccupy (the mind)' and 'take control of (a place)'

http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/occupy?

So in reality the 'Occupy' movement in Australia does not have be exclusively an occupation of public spaces. This in mind it could include physical occupation of public spaces and or other forms of occupation. This includes the occupation of time, places, spaces and minds with the physical self, visual art, music and media, litterature, conversation, representation etc/

I understand the current form of 'Occupy' in Australia has had varying levels of success. I support the exploration of alternative forms of occupation that are accessable and engaging for all Australians and am interested to hear the ideas of others.

The Occupy movement appeals because it tackles the issue that has been with this planet since time immemorial; the disparity between the have and the have nots. When one considers some of the major issues that need attention globally we are not going to achieve them by protesting in public places or by debate – certainly not in time. Some global problems that we do not have much time to resolve are:

1. Degradation of the planet.

2. Over population,

3. Wage inequality including poverty, the sex industry, health and safety standards etc

4. Religious differences

5. Organised crime, particularly drugs and child prostitution.

If we can go some way towards resolving these issues within the next 20 years we will have achieved a great deal.

The wealthy are entrenched into the system and while they are not per se our enemies they are not going to accept change that may undermine their position or authority with any ease. Government and the Police force and is some cased the Army (Syria) is used against the populous to maintain the status quo. Occupy members will spend years trying to protest the situation and fail to achieve much apart from being arrested and sprayed with pepper spray! Frustration will lead to violence and bloodshed – many from the movement.

The current status quo has suited the planet up to this point but now a new system of governance is needed; a global one.

The Occupy movement needs to concentrate on resolving issues globally through support within each country. The philosophy of the 99% has immediate appeal to those who spend their lives struggling to survive or are being taken advantage of or are just sick of only being able to survive. Some people who do not like the existing situation are not poor. Some have ideals and moral values that they see denigrated by the politicians and big business. They will support the Occupy movement in due course.

We need a movement that lives outside the existing system and ultimately declares it irrelevant.
