If the Occupy movement could become a political party, it would get my vote. Danny.

Now thats an interesting concept! I am not particularly educated about politics, but it would seem like a bit of an oxymoron to have an 'Occupy Australia Party.' If we are disillusioned by our political and ecconomic climate and call for a revolution; wouldn't participating in it be counter productive?

Agreed, we couldn't directly associate it with the Occupy movement, and it would also be a bad idea if were chasing votes from the general public. Although, a new political party can still be created that stands for ecomonic equality, justice, true democracy etc: everything the movement represents.

Yo have me thinking now... The greater Australian public need a clearer understanding of how our political systems work and the power they have. We do need polical and ecconomic revolution in Australia but the Australian people need and education first, they need to know the truth. Currently the Australian people do not understand the power we have, happily accept what is presented to us and are set in our two party thinking. This isnt good enough, if we dont understand our current political climate and the power we hold then how can it ever be over thrown. "The Australian Sex Party is a political response to the sexual needs of Australia in the 21st century. It is an attempt to restore the balance between sexual privacy and sexual publicity that has been severely distorted by morals campaigners and prudish politicians." The Australian Sex Party central focus is on human rights and civil liberties. There people centred policies have expanded over the last two years to be far greater than sexual rights and they are strongly supported by Australian small business'. In the last federal election, The Australian Sex Party recieved more votes than the Greens did in there first few elections. They used their name to get the Australian peoples attention and used it to educate and inform the public. How many people watched the Sunrise debates between ASP & Family First. Even if the Australian Sex Party never secures a seat, what they have achieved it inspiring.

Garten is spot on. People give their votes willingly to those who make vague promises - and they keep their power for next 4 years, by which the disillusioned nation decides to vote for the other side (sometimes). With new technology such as electronic voting the direct democracy is much more viable. However, people do not understand this yet, and therefore vote for parties... More independents should be coming up at elections, and that way powerw ould be distributed to the electorates as independents would answer to their constituents not to the party HQ. How about a party called "Ordinary People"?

a political party would be a good idea but it would have to be carefully done, with clear policies that are "common sense" and for the people, not something like a tax or payout, but something real like free housing ($800 billion would house every australian) or free power (115 billion to power us all) or free food. (green)food simply grows in the ground it can be automated for little cost. these are the things that we "need" not tax incentives or an NBN (although cool, cant eat it) the party could support, but be seperate from, Occupy and potentially become a voice within the political system, asking the "right" question directly to the right people Thanks Essy

To be a political party, you must abide by the systems rules. The party will be infiltrated by the current Duopoly (2 party system), who are so easily bought by the Corporates. Hey Presto!! back to square one, and return to the Dark Ages, so as you can't try that again.

Rather than create a new party, that can not possibly achieve much in the current system, we need to change the system BEFORE we can achieve political gains. This means supporting the largest party that is in favour of changing the electoral system to proportional representation. I believe this is the Greens. The ONLY way to achieve political gain is to get rid of this seat-based Westminster system of electing pollies, which ALWAYS leads to 2 parties (Labour, Libs) both of whom get bribed by the corporates.
